Miles' Memorial WOD

To celebrate and remember Miles, we will be doing the following workout at CrossFit Coronado on Saturday, June 22nd during normal class times (8:30 and 10:00am). All local friends and family are welcome to join. If you aren’t local, please join us from wherever you are. There is no charge to participate. Instead, we ask that you consider a donation to the SUDC Foundation in Miles’ memory.

The rep scheme and movements remind us of our Buddy Miles, who lived a very full 15 months of life before leaving us too soon on June 19, 2022. He loved to run, could squat all day while he played, and planked with impeccable form. He loved an audience and clapped whenever he did something cool, knowing we would join right in to celebrate with him.

For time, with a partner:

Buy in: 800m Run (together)

15 Rounds: (You go, I go. Split with partner however you’d like)
6 Burpees
19 Crossovers or Double Unders
22 Air Squats

Cash out: 800m Run (together)2nd

The story of Miles "Buddy" Gramling

2024 London Marathon

Mara ran the 2024 London Marathon in memory of Miles and as a fundraiser for the U.K.’s Lullaby Trust Charity. The The Lullaby Trust promotes safe infant and toddler sleep, provides support to bereaved families, and most importantly, conducts research into sudden unexplained infant and childhood deaths. Similar to the SUDC Foundation in the U.S., these organizations receive no public funding and rely solely on donations. Thank you to all of your generous donations, we were able to raise £2,000 for the Lullaby Trust. Miles carried Mara to the finish line as her legs got tired, and Jett, dad, grandma, and grandpa were there to cheer her on!

2022 NYC Marathon

Joe ran the NYC Marathon on November 6th, 2022 in honor of Miles and to raise awareness and funds for the SUDC Foundation. Miles was with him every step of the way as he ran 26.2 miles through the five boroughs of NYC.

Please visit the below link to learn more about Joe’s fundraising efforts and the SUDC Foundation. With your help, he was able to raise over $5,000 for the SUDC Foundation. Thank you!

2022 MIles for Miles

To honor the life of Miles “Buddy” Gramling, we’ve created team Miles for Miles to walk, run, and jog in America’s Finest City Half Marathon and 5k in San Diego on August 21, 2022. Thank you to everyone who participated this year (both near and far)!

What is SUDC?

SUDC stands for Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. SUDC is a category of death in children between the ages of 1 and 18 that remains unexplained after a thorough investigation, including an autopsy. Most often, a seemingly healthy child goes to sleep and never wakes up. At this time, we do not know what causes SUDC, how to predict it, or how to prevent it. It is very rare, occurring in 1 in 100,000 children. Every year, approximately 450 children are lost to SUDC in the United States.

Do you plan to create a foundation to honor Miles?

We do not plan to create a foundation. If you’d like to support an organization that is important to us, please visit https://SUDC.org to learn more about the SUDC Foundation. The SUDC Foundation’s mission is to promote awareness, advocate for research, and support those affected by SUDC. The SUDC Foundation runs solely on private donations as public funding is focused on other sudden and unexplained deaths, such as SIDS. The Foundation also provides support services to grieving families, free of charge.
